The founder of the Maitland & English Law Firm, PLLC, Robert N. Maitland II has a diverse practice that covers a variety of disciplines. The firm is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and he represents clients throughout the Research Triangle area, including Raleigh and Durham. Mr. Maitland has been admitted to practice in North Carolina since 2002, and he is also admitted to practice in Florida as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Maitland attended the University of California, Los Angeles, as an alumni scholar, and in 1984, he received a Bachelor of Arts in political science. After a lengthy career in banking, he enrolled at the University of North Carolina School of Law, and he served on what was then known as the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation and received a Robert D. Dearborn Memorial Scholarship before obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1997.
After spending time as an associate at a Florida law firm, Mr. Maitland returned to Chapel Hill and was the general counsel for the Visiting International Scholars program before opening his current firm in November 2002. He now devotes a significant portion of his practice to commercial and residential real estate transactions, representing sellers and purchasers as well as brokers. Mr. Maitland?s client base has also included entrepreneurs who are starting a new venture, and his assistance in this regard has entailed formation, contract preparation and review, regulatory compliance, and general advice and counsel.
Mr. Maitland has experience in other practice areas such as family law, estate planning, immigration, criminal defense and general commercial litigation. He is a former president of the Orange County Bar Association and a member of several professional and civic organizations.
