About Kirk Chargois

Born and raised in Houston, Texas and a product of the Houston public school system, Kirk Chargois grew up in Houston?s ?Sunnyside? neighborhood and is a proud graduate of the Evan E. Worthing Senior High School Class of 1986. After high school Kirk enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, rising to the rank and position of Sergeant & Assistant Squad Leader. Kirk served in the only airborne deployable tank battalion in the free world, and thus spent a considerable amount of time participating in tactical airborne operations in the field. Upon his departure from active duty service, Kirk returned home to Houston and continued his military service in the Active US Army Reserve serving as a watercraft engineer and Squad Leader. Kirk conducted the maintenance and operations of LCU-2000 (Landing Craft, Utility) and other Army vessels. During this time and as he multi-tasked both work and education, Kirk was enrolled at the University of Houston and HoustonCommunity College, respectively. Kirk worked successive jobs as a waiter for a popular Houston restaurant, a security officer for an armored car company, and lastly as a Deputy for the Harris County Sheriff?s Department. Also during this time, Kirk got married and was subsequently blessed with two wonderful children; a daughter and son respectively. Upon his graduation from the Sheriffs Academy Kirk was nominated by his peers as Distinguished Graduate and was chosen to be the class spokesman. Continuing in his college studies as he worked toward his bachelor?s degree Kirk also continued education and police training at the Sheriff?s academy and various other venues and locations, including the HoustonPoliceDepartmentAcademy. After graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor?s of Arts degree in History and Minor in African-American Studies, Kirk entered law school at Texas Southern University?s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. In addition to his regular studies, Kirk was very involved in law school activities, serving as a Thurgood Marshall Student Ambassador, advocate on the honor court, executive board member of the Student Bar Association, executive board member of the Christian Legal Society, executive board member of the Barbara C. Jordan Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, and as a graduate Assistant. Kirk also served as a staff writer and featured columnist for The Solicitor, Thurgood Marshall?s student magazine. Kirk focused extensively on advocacy for indigent or less sophisticated clients who were often taken advantage of. Due in great part to his work ethic and professionalism, and in recognition for his humanitarian work and work within the community, Kirk attained an honorable law school distinction: recipient of the Community Service Award from the Student Bar Association. Kirk was very motivated to succeed in law school and begin the practice of law. During his second and third years, and in addition to family duties, law school studies, and extracurricular volunteer activities, Kirk worked as an intern in a Plaintiff?s personal injury firm. In his third year Kirk studied for and took the Texas Bar Exam in early February and, after discovering that he had passed the Bar Exam one week prior to graduation, Kirk happily graduated law school as a licensed practicing attorney beginning the work that he enjoys today. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment that Kirk has realized thus far in his legal career has been working with his brother and mentor, Damon Chargois, a very well-respected trial lawyer and staunch advocate. Among his many extracurricular and community activities, Kirk participates in volunteer work with the Houston Food Bank and is a regular blood and plasma donor at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Kirk is very involved in community service work with his church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he also serves in several ministries. Kirk is a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of St. Peter Claver, Inc., Council #231, and is the Commander of the Jr. Knights of St. Peter Claver, Branch #231. As Jr. Commander, Kirk presently mentors 25 young men in their development as young men and future leaders, having just prior to that served as mentor to other young men as a co-founding member of ?Boys to Men?, a ministry that focuses on issues unique and similar to both men and boys. Among his honors and accolades over the years: Appeared as a commentator on an episode of ?Prison Wives?, a documentary series on the I.D. Discovery Channel; Received a Community Service Award from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law Student Bar Association; Trained-for and completed both the 2006 Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, D.C., and the 2007 Aramco Half Marathon in Houston, Texas; Distinguished Graduate and Class Spokesman ? Harris County Sheriff?s Department Class B1-94; and Honorably discharged having received the Army Achievement Medal; Parachutist Badge; Expert Marksman Badge; Good Conduct Medal, and Cold War Service Citation. Kirk?s most treasured time now is spent being the ?best father in the world? to his two children, and participating in his hobby and other passion; cooking authentic Creole dishes?especially his delicious gumbo!
