Former Judge Dan L. Wyde was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. His family moved there in the 1890s. Dan was elected president of Thomas Jefferson High School, to the University of Texas Business School Student Council and appointed to the UT Judicial Council. He was awarded a U.S. Congressional Internship by Congressman Jack Brooks in 1984. He is an Eagle Scout and awarded the Certificate of Merit by National Council of the Boy Scouts of America for saving the life a scoutmaster.
After graduating from UT with a BBA in Finance, Dan was employed as a credit analyst with First City Bank, N.A. While at the Univ. of Houston Law Center he was the Mock Trial Champion and named 'Best' Oralist. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1990 and was hired by the Dallas County District Attorney's office as an Assistant District Attorney. As a prosecutor, Dan prosecuted and developed expertises in areas of child abuse, major drug cases, and white collar crime. He is an expert in civil and criminal trial procedure and evidence.
In 1997 at the age of 34 Dan was appointed by unanimous vote of the Dallas County Commissioners as Judge of County Criminal Court No. 3, Dallas, TX. After winning election and re-election, Judge Wyde presided over 500 hundred of jury trials, 500 non-jury trials and approximately 25,000 cases. He was appealed 100 times and reversed only once.
In 2006 Judge Wyde founded Wyde & Associates, PLLC, where he is the managing partner. The firm specializes in Civil, Business, Family, Probate, Wills, Trust and Estate, and Criminal Law. Judge Wyde is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Criminal Trial Law and is certified to handle Guardianships. He has tried employment law and election law cases. In 2016 he recorded the 14th largest jury verdict in Texas which was the largest non-personal injury jury verdict in the Dallas federal courts in 20 years. Judge Wyde has argued numerous appeals before the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Fifth District Court of Appeals at Dallas and Second Court of Appeals at Fort Worth.
